U14 Girls at 2011 Feile in Cork

Clann Eireann U14 Girls travelled to Kanturk Co.Cork for this year’s Feile. First up was the host club Kanturk who were beaten in style, with a scoreline 5-11 to 1-2. After the match the girls travelled to Cork City where they took part in a parade with 181 other teams.
Next day, they travelled to Glantane to play another Cork team, Kilshannig and came out winners, scoring 5-9 to 1-3.

This got them into the quarter finals, where they played a tough team, Thomastown from Kilkenny. It was a brilliant match with exceptional football being played from both teams. The game ended in a draw but Clann Eireann went through on a better scores difference. Straight after the match the girls travelled to Bishopstown to play Clanmire in the semis.

The girls dug deep and got off to a flying start and ended the first half 3-9 to 1-0. Tiredness set in during the second half and the girls conceded 3 goals but it wasn’t enough to beat them and they were through to the final which was to be played in Pairc Ui Rinn, on Saturday against Lurgan from Co.Cavan.

In the 1st half Clann Eireann started with 2 great points but conceded 2 goals and a point. The bigger Cavan side’s physical strength started to play a part and they were able to take their scores and dominate the game. The Clann Eireann Girls never gave up and fought to the end but eventually lost out to the Cavan side. This was a great achievement for the girls as they became ALL-IRELAND RUNNERS UP, doing their Club and County proud.
A big thank you to everyone that helped in anyway. A special mention for our host club Kanturk who welcomed us into their homes and looked after us throughout the tournament.

The girls will never forget this memorable trip!
