Clann Eireann 1sts travelled to Dromore on Friday night to try and continue their good form. The girls had suffered a set back the previous week as they had to concede point to Phoenix due to not being able to field a team. However the girls were determined to get back to winning ways.
With Fiona Mc Cabe missing the girls had to call up second’s player Avoureen Coleman to help out. The game started off well for Clann Eireann and great shooting from Amy Brennan helped to pile the pressure on Dromore. Constant work from Roisin Leonard in the middle of the court spreading the play gave Clann Eireann great possession as Dromore failed to keep up. The girls went into the second quarter with a lead of 7 knowing that they would have to lift the intensity even higher.
However the second 15 was much of the same as the first and the girls walked off a half time with a lead of 9. The second half was a different story as Dromore changed around their team around which Clann Eireann struggled to cope with. However the girls were still in the game due to excellent defensive work from Roisin Purdy, Pauline Mc Geown and Avoureen Coleman.
The girls entered the final quarter knowing that if they were to see out the game they had to push Dromore as hard as they could. Fortunately brilliant shooting from Aine Purdy in the final 15 saw no way back for Dromore, leaving a final score of Dromore 1sts 46 – 52 Clann Eireann 1sts. This fixture was the last of the first half of the season and it now leaves the girls in strong position to gain promotion come April.
Thanks also goes to Helen Mc Cambridge for umpiring this fixture.
