Following report is from Armagh GAA Website.
The Armagh Underage star in the Nationals was undoubtedly Niamh Coleman. Niamh stormed through her matches and played No.1 seed Eimear NíBhiadha from Galway in the U-12 final, which the Orchard girl won by 3 points – 20-17 – a great game of handball and a marvellous achievement for Niamh and her coaches!!!!!
Young Aoife McConville also put in great determined performances reaching the U14 semi finals losing to eventual winner Galway's Cianna Ní Churraoin. Well done Aoife.
Cullyhanna native, Clann Eireann’s Conal McCavitt advanced the whole way to the semi-finals of the U-16. This was only his third tournament, reaching the final of the MensC Division in Lurgan and the final of the Williamstown Galway over the past few months. It’s all about experience and playing games – he is a very natural handballer and is pitted against and beating youngsters who have been competing for many many years.
Under 10 Blitz
There were over 400 competitors in the Irish OneWall Nationals – ranging from the youngest - St. Killian’s Fiachra ODuill aged just 5 to Cork’s Jim Kennedy aged 85 – an astounding 80years.
Fiachra ODuill, Cailiosa NiDhuill – both St. Killian’s and Peadar Shanks, Dearbhla Coleman – both Clann Eireann played fabulous in there respective games. These four children are far beyond their years in terms of ability and skill and all four will still be eligible to play U-10 next year. No doubt these children are at such an advantage being able to view the skills of Charly Shanks and James Doyle on a regular basis and it is proving to show. From Fiachra’s power serving, Dearbhla’s amazing reach, Cailiosa’s dancing feet and Peadar’s all-around ability – Armagh GAA handball is in safe hands for the future – well done kids!
