The All-Ireland 40x20 final qualifiers produced top drawer handball with none better than the clash of Charly Shanks and Gavin Buggy at Leixlip on Sunday night. This was a thriller with Armagh man Shanks (left) defeating Wexford senior hurler Buggy on a 21-13 ticket in a third game.

Shanks opened the play-off with intent and settled into comfortable mode, taking the first game 21-11. But Buggy, who has already caused quite a stir in the senior singles and doubles championship this season, then upped the ante in the second game with commanding rallies for a 21-16 win to level the contest.

In the tie-breaking third session, it was point-for-point for most of the early stages before Shanks pushed into top gear to take a hard-earned victory and seal a quarter-final spot at 21-13.
