Week ending 01/02/09
This week seen the exciting encounter between Clann Eireann 1sts and local rivals Portadown 2nds. With both teams sitting joint second this was a must win in the race for promotion. The game couldn’t have come at a better time as Clann Eireann were full off confidence following their win over top team Hollywood.
First quarter was close with both teams taking important scores but due to mistakes on the Portadown team Clann Eireann lead by 4 at the break. Second
quarter the girls came racing out of the blocks with non-stop effort up and down the court from GD Pauline Mc Geown and WA Sinéad Mc Dermott. Clann
Eireann capitalised on this possession with excellent scores from shoots Amy Brennan and Aine Purdy. Come half time the girls were leading by
9.
Third quarter was much of the same with top class defending from Roisin Purdy allowing Roisin Leonard and Niamh Mc Kanvangh to break
quickly. The final quarter seen the substitution of Karen Crossy into GK, which gave the team that extra strength at the back. When the final whistle
blew and another win under their belt, the girls now have the belief that promotion is within their grasp.
