Clann Eireann 1sts V Newry 1sts

Clann Eireann 1sts defeated Newry 1sts last night in a tough game at St Michaels School. The girls came rushing out of the blocks in the first quarter, breaking Newry’s first two centre passes. Good movement and shooting from Fiona Mc Cabe in the circle seen the girls lead 15 to 11 at quarter time.

The second quarter Newry came out much faster and fought their way back into the game breaking down Clann Eireann’s attacks. Smart play from Roisin Leonard and Emma Maye resulted in a 1 point lead for Clann Eireann at half time. Superb defending from Roisin Purdy and Amy Brennan in the third quarter forced Newry to make errors which Clann Eireann took advantage of to leave a lead of 6 going into the final quarter.

The last 15 minutes where the tightest of the game which saw both teams break up play and make unforced errors. Aine Purdy kept the score board ticking over in the final quarter with outstanding scores to put the game out of Newry’s reach.
