Banbridge 47 – 41 Clann Eireann 1sts
Clann Eireann 1sts took on Banbridge Ladies on Tuesday night in the opening fixture of the new season. The girls started off slow in the first quarter with an 8 point deficit after the first 10 minutes, however great defensive work from Roisin Purdy and Pauline Mc Geown saw the girls fight their way back into the game and only trailing by two at quarter time. The second quarter seen a huge improvement with great forward play from Roisin Leonard and Niamh Mc Kavanagh, this pushed the girls to lift the intensity of the game and come half time the match was all square.
The third quarter was very nip and tuck with both teams finding it hard to break their opponents centre passes. With great scores from Fionnuala Beatty and Amy Brennan, Clann Eireann had the momentum. Nevertheless a number of unforced errors from the girls meant that they were trailing by one come the last quarter. The first five minutes of the last quarter saw Clann Eireann on top with important interceptions from Ashleen Mc Crory. However Clann Eireann began to fall away as Banbridge raised their game to pull off some fantastic scores and turnovers in the dying minutes of the game to leave a final score of 47- 41 to Banbridge.
This was a disappointing result for the girls to lose by such a narrow margin, but gives the girls great confidence for their next fixture against Valley.
