The training consists of building core fitness ,body weight exercises and Jun Fan Gung Fu. This method comes directly from Bruce Lee’s number one student Taky Kimura and his son Andy from SeattleUSA. Instruction at the class teaches values such as honour and integrity and builds confidence and an anti bullying philosophy to all students.

Marie is fondly remembered both within Clann Eireann ladies football circles and in the wider Armagh ladies football family as a true legend, a unique person who passes but once in a lifetime.

In March 2007, Caitriona McKeag, 16 years old and a hugely promising talent was sadly and very suddenly taken from us, a victim of meningitis.

Our Club’s players take to the courts this weekend in a Handball filled weekend. Prodigal son, Charly Shanks is due to partake in the 2012 Irish 40×20 Nationals Mens Open this evening in Kingscourt taking on Cork’s Colm Jordan at 5pm. With the breaking news of Paul Brady’s withdrawal from the competition through injury Charles will surely have his sights on the title.
In the Golden Masters grade Conor McMahon is aiming for the National title and with the divisional championship final victory midweek his sights will be set high for the National title.
Two of our younger competitors are also in action over, reigning U-14 girl’s single champion Niamh Coleman and Aoife McConville are aiming to secure a place on the Ireland National team for the incoming World Championships. Although both players are on the same side of the draw we are hoping for success.

We wish all our players the best of luck!

As part of the ongoing community relations programme between Clann Eireann and Lurgan Youth Annexe those involved travelled on Weds 22nd February to Parliament Buildings at Stormont . During our time their the young people had an opportunity to meet with local MLA’s as well as political representatives from all of the main political parties .

Twenty young people along with project staff and volunteers undertook a Tour of Stormont organised by The Education Office and had a Q and A session with D.Kelly, (SDLP), P.Doherty, (Sinn Fein), Jo Anne Dobson, (UUP) Meta Crozier, (UUP) S Moutray, (DUP) . For many of the young people involved this was their first visit to The Assembly. Having undertaken a guided tour of the main building and the Assembly Chamber the group then travelled the short distance from Parliament Buildings to Stormont Castle to meet The First Minister, Mr Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister Mr Martin Mc Guinness.

For some forty minutes both ministers were kind enough to engage with the group on issues of concern to the young people gathered. Topics discussed were the workings of the Executive and the Assembly, facilities and services for young people, third level education, job creation and the possibility of creating political internships within the Assembly. Both First and Deputy First Ministers’ complimented the group and staff on the Community Relations work facilitated to date and asked that the group would continue to build on the progress already made but also to encourage and inspire others to engage in similar projects.

Following on from Stormont the group travelled across the city to meet with Mr Kevin Roland American Consulate General and his staff. The meeting with Mr Roland gave the young people present a chance to here at first hand the role the American administration had in building the peace process which led to the current political structures being put in place . The consulate emphasised to the young people the need for co-operation and democratic dialogue as the basis for problem solving and the creation of a better society for all.

Consulate staff member, Mr Peter Mc Kitterick informed the group about other global conflict areas and explained how the Northern Ireland peace process is a great example of how difficulties can be overcome. Consulate staff concluded with a briefing on the American political system and opportunities’ available in the U.S.A for the young people participating in this project. This cross-community partnership demonstrates the positive engagement of young people from Protestant and Catholic communities through the development of relationships at both local and political levels.
We would wish to thank all of the political representatives who gave of their time to facilitate the meetings which everyone found both informative and educational. We are very grateful for the support from the US Consulate and Office of First and Deputy First Minister. The programme is supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs (ROI) and SELB Youth Service.

As part of the ongoing and continuous work already undertaken within the Community Relations Programme between Clann Eireann YC (North Lurgan) and Lurgan Youth Annexe (Mourneview) young people from both clubs undertook a Residential Weekend staying at Downhill Youth Hostel just outside Coleraine.

Departing Lurgan on the Friday evening both groups travelled by minibus to this idyllic location which was right on the coast literally a stones throw from Downhill Beach. The main purpose of this residential was to further build on the extensive work already done in workshops over the past months. This gave the young people both boys and girls aged between 15-18yrs and staff alike an opportunity to further explore each others traditions and culture thus creating greater understanding and trust .

With this in mind both groups travelled into Derry-Londonderry taking in a Visit to The Apprentice Boys Hall were we where given a guided tour of The Apprentice Boys Museum which tells the story of The Siege of the City, this coupled with a guided tour of Derry’s-Londonderrys Walls gave all of those there a more comprehensive understanding of the complex history of the Maiden City. Partaking of lunch in a city cafe the entire group of staff and young people alike were glad to get indoors for a while “the famous Derry air being somewhat cold and indeed wet” Lunch over the group travelled to the Bogside to visit the Free Derry/Londonderry Museum and have a guided tour of the Murals and the story they told. During this visit the group heard a first hand account of the events of Bloody Sunday from John Kelly whose brother was shot dead on that terrible day. This was particularly apt as that weekend was the 40th Anniversary of Bloody Sunday. The group upon returning to Downhill enjoyed each others company with a meal in a local restaurant and then a visit to the cinema.

Both groups informed staff of how much they had enjoyed the day and both groups felt that they had gained a greater respect and understanding of the cultural issues of each others respective tradition and history both social and political. Sunday morning we departed Downhill for home visiting Derry-Londonderry City Centre to view and indeed cross the new “Peace Bridge”, travelling homeward via Omagh the young people had a chance to visit and indeed reflect at The Omagh Bomb Memorial.

This residential is just one of a number the two clubs working together will undertake in the months that lie ahead. None of this would have been possible without the support of each clubs respective Management Committees, the young people’s respective parents and The Dept of Foreign Affairs in Dublin for providing financial assistance for this programme. We are indebted to those mentioned for the support and confidence they place in us to promote and deliver this most important aspect of the Youth Service Curriculum.”
